GLASS ALCHEMY HISTORY

  • Glass Alchemy was founded in 1999 by Susan Webb and Henry Grimmett.  Through the combination of their knowledge and passion for investigative science and the arts, they have established this company as a leader of innovation in the art glass industry. Susan is the President and CEO of Glass Alchemy, Ltd. and Henry is the General Manager and Technologist.
  • Glass Alchemy produces low expansion colored borosilicate glass. Industry and artists use this heat and shock resistant glass. The brand name GA uses for its rods and frits is Boromax®.
  • Glass Alchemy has pushed the boundaries of what was considered possible in the manufacture of colored borosilicate. GA was the first to introduce the bright cadmium Crayon colors in borosilicate glass. They were also the first to introduce the Aventurine, sparkle, colors and the first black-light responsive colors.
  • Glass Alchemy was the first to produce a smooth, creamy, compatible white that is not based on bubble technologies and is currently developing a new line of pastel colors with this white.
  • Glass Alchemy was the first to educate the artists on the chemistry in the glass and how to use and control its characteristics. GA’s commitment to education has contributed to the growth of the borosilicate lampworking community.
  • Glass Alchemy’s management team established a clear mission statement in 2002: Enhancing the World through Vision, Creativity and Innovation. Glass Alchemy also operates with the same set of core values on which the company was founded: Honesty, Work Smart / Keep it Simple (KIS), Lifelong Learning, Quality products, Employee & Customer Satisfaction and Good Corporate Citizenship.
  • Today, Glass Alchemy, Ltd. is involved in pioneering research in innovative uses of borosilicate glass and advancing health and safety awareness for the lampworker.
