Working characteristics: Flame and kiln strike. Try preworking by gathering in a hot reducing flame. Pull out into rod and use.

Tips: Contains silver. Strike in back of flame to develop silver colors. Kiln strike for reds.

Ruby

Developed to be very difficult to strike in the flame but to easily strike to a deep transparent red in the kiln.

Working characteristics: Work in hot, neutral or oxidizing flame.

Tips: If flame striking, let cool, strike in back of flame. For best results, kiln strike.

Ruby/Polychromatic

Color Description:
A ruby with a thousand subtle tones.


Properties: Translucent, striking-luster.

Working characteristics: Flame and kiln strike. Try pre-working by gathering in a hot reducing flame. Pull out into rod and use.

Contains copper that has been reduced, so it will strike to a deep red opal ruby and will transmit deep transparent red when kiln struck.

Color Description:
This clear rod does not strike to any color; however, it converts UV radiation to a bright pink color. The UV bulb must be of the Black Light Blue (BLB) type and should be less than one year old.


Properties: Low color saturation, transparent, fluoresces.

Working characteristics: Can be used with any flame, any heat.

Tips: The larger the mass of the piece, the brighter the color will be.
